Javier Sapiña García began his musical education in Sociedad Musical Santa Cecilia de Cullera. He subsequently attended Conservatorio Superior Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia, where he studied horn with J. Rosell and later, double bass with E. Maravella at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, the institution from which he earned the Honors Award upon graduation. He completed his studies with Jeff Bradetich in Chicago and Franco Petracchi in Geneva.

Double bass soloist for the Orquesta de Valencia, he is also a founding member of the Collegium Instrumentale Chamber Orchestra, Grup Instrumental de València (Spanish National Music Prize 2005), and the Vesperale quartet and Pablo Zinger´s Tango Zinger Septet.

He has performed with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Orquesta de Valencia, Orquesta de la Comunitad Valenciana, Banda Municipal de Valencia and municipal ensembles in Mallorca and Bilbao. Moreover, he has collaborated with several chamber music groups and orchestra, under the direction of Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Jesús López Cobos, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Josep Pons, Mstislav Rostropovich, Yehudi Menuhin, Walter Weller, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Yaron Traub and Ramón Tebar. He has shared the stage with soloists such as Alfredo Kraus, Teresa Berganza, Plácido Domingo, Salvatore Accardo, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky and Franco Petracchi, among others.

As a concertmaster, he has performed in prestigious concert halls such as the Sala Mozart in Zaragoza, Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao and Sala Iturbi del Palau de la Música in Valencia.

He has taught as professor at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, Conservatorio Superior de Música Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia and chair of the double bass department at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón. In his work as an educator, master classes given at the Haute école de musique Genève – Neuchâtel are a particular highlight, in addition to specialized courses and preparatory work for youth orchestras events such as the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE), Jove Orquesta de la Generalitat Valenciana (JOGV) and the JM World Youth Orchestra.

With multiple recordings under his belt, he recently premiered the double bass concerto El gegant de fusta by Ferrer Ferran.
