Reviewed by New Music USA since “his gestures rumbled with high contrast”, Jose Martinez, a native of Chelva (Spain), is principal tuba of the National Orchestra of Spain since 2017.

Jose was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and fortunate to perform as guest with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops, Chicago Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony, Jalisco Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Porto Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony or the Seattle Symphony.

Martinez is a member of brassONEquintet, Duo2Arts! and Duo Basso Continuo. He has collaborated with World Brass and performed with artists from the New York Philharmonic or within the Chicago Symphony MusicNOW contemporary music series.

Jose won 1st prize at the Luminarts Foundation Solo Competition, soloed at the Midwest Clinic International Conference with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago or embarked on a recital tour with stops in Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston.

Martinez has exchanged knowledge with other musicians in Belgium, Mexico, Portugal, USA and in Spain. From the 2020/2021 academic year, he is on faculty at ESMAR.

Sergio Carolino dixit and one of his inspirations, Jose will forever be indebted to Mike Roylance, Gene Pokorny, Morten Agerup and Sergio Finca and credits a great deal of progress to summer studies at Tanglewood Music Center, Music Academy of the West and the University of Redlands. Having studied in Spain, Sweden and the USA, doctor Martinez is currently studying an online certificate on The Science of Well-Being at Yale University.
